learning Lions Scholars Program

Though our Origins Homes children already enjoy a great education, at GFI, we want to extend that basic right to as many students as possible. Our Learning Lions program has this goal in mind. Learning Lions is a community based education support program for local, underprivileged children who have families, most often low-income, single mothers.

These families lack sufficient resources to provide for all the needs of their children and struggle to keep their children enrolled and successfully performing in school. To help families avoid the terrible choice of eating, or medicine, or buying school supplies, GFI provides schoolbooks and materials including pens, pencils, notebooks, uniforms, shoes, backpacks, an extra set of clothing and shoes, and supplement school fees. Our Ethiopian staff has regular meetings with the caregivers and children, and know the struggles they face and share in the successes they achieve.

The material, financial, emotional, and educational support these families receive from GFI underscore our core beliefs: every child deserves an education because he or she is a citizen of the world.
